The Grant Clarinet studio is one of the only private studios in Northern Virginia featuring a full reed workshop right in the lesson room. Reed lessons are available to private students and sectional students. We can learn about properly breaking in reeds and adjusting store bought reeds, plus the studio is fully equipped to make clarinet reeds from scratch. Hands-on reed work empowers all clarinetists to take control of their reeds.
Lessons take place at my home studio in Reston, Virginia. My studio is conveniently located near the Wiehle Ave metro station and my students come from Reston, Fairfax, McLean, Vienna, Falls Church, Oakton, Herndon, Loudon and other neighboring communities. Ample parking is available right out front. When visiting, parents are welcome observe lessons or to wait in the comfortable waiting area adjoining the studio. Parents, students and guests may use the desk for writing or homework, borrow a book, magazine or game, use the powder room, or visit our new community playground. WiFi is available while waiting. My teaching studio includes an extensive lending library of sheet music, equipment and recordings available for students to borrow. The library is also used to supplement the Studio Lesson Binder that is customized for and provided to all students.
New students are accepted throughout the course of the year. I teach a regular weekly lesson schedule during the school year and a more casual schedule during the summer. Email is usually the best way to reach me, as I do not answer the phone during lessons. Please contact me to inquire about lesson availability and registration.
“I looked forward to every lesson because her teaching studio is like a sanctuary where I see my daughter visibly relax and center herself...As my daughter's confidence grows, her music is more beautiful, but more importantly, she is a more resilient person overall." -Parent
"The feeling that seems to permeate the atmosphere in the lesson room is something like 'serious, focused playfulness.' "

I strive to make clarinet lessons to work for busy students, families and adult professionals. The studio location is close to major roads, with ample parking, a pleasant waiting area, and wifi. Monthly tuition invoices are sent via email, and electronic credit card payments are accepted via that email or the student portal. Planning is a breeze because the full year of lesson dates, plus dates of the studio recitals and masterclasses, are provided at the beginning of the school year. Additionally, students can access the studio's full schedule and electronically reschedule occasional lesson make-ups; Google Meet or FaceTime make-ups are also available. I want clarinet lessons to be the easiest activity on your calendar!
Let's Chat About Clarinet
Grant Clarinet Studio students include beginning elementary school clarinetists, high school students, collegiate musicians, and adults. My clarinetists are members of the excellent Fairfax County band programs, private and home schooled students; no prior musical experience is necessary. I celebrate all student success stories: the first note from a new clarinetist, learning all the major scales, a successful audition or a smile after the recital. Studio members have had the opportunity to participate in All-Virginia Band and Orchestra, District Bands for districts 9, 10, 11, 12 and 16, Senior Regional Orchestra, the American Youth Philharmonic Orchestras, the Northern Virginia Youth Winds, and the Main Street Community Band. Students are successful soloists at festivals, competitions, recitals, clinics and masterclasses, and have completed the ABRSM exams all the way through grade 8. Grant Clarinet Studio students have gone on to study at prestigious universities as music education and performance majors. Beginners and non-neurotypical students hold a special place in my heart.
What's better than studying music in a studio with one dedicated, enthusiastic, experienced teacher? Studying in a studio with two teachers! The Grant Clarinet Studio offers a truly unique learning experience for students, as husband and wife teaching team Chris and Laura Grant are both skilled and passionate about their primary instrument: the clarinet. Mrs. Grant serves as the principal teacher, personally overseeing each student's instruction, so they benefit from customized curriculum based on musical needs and interests. Mr. Grant is a guest instructor in the studio, providing fresh perspectives, ideas and inspiration to students periodically throughout the year. Because of the multiple teacher set up, students also have scheduling and make-up lesson flexibility, extra opportunities, and second opinions unique to the Grant Clarinet Studio.
